There’s been a lot of discussion in the media recently about ‘tweakments’, some portraying a rather negative picture of those who do.  I have a few things to say on this matter, in particular about the recent Times article by Anna Murphy.

It seems to be a thing now, promoting ‘growing old gracefully’, seeing lines and ageing as a symbol of wisdom and individuality, ‘becoming comfortable with your most authentic self’ This is fantastic, and I feel happy that there are lots of confident women out there promoting this, please don’t stop! However, there are few things that need to be said on this matter….

Not all women have that confidence, especially in this world of ageism and misogyny, which sadly can’t be denied. And even for women that do have enough confidence, what is the harm in having tweakments to make them feel better about themselves?

The @annagmurphy article would like you to believe that anyone who has tweakments ends up looking like a ridiculous over-plumped, frozen-faced thing. Her article highlights all the freaky looking people who have completely overdone their cosmetic procedures. And her photograph of what she would look like if she had had tweakments is quite frankly ridiculous!

Let’s face it, we’ve all seen these overdone faces, but once again my side of the aesthetic industry, run by medical professionals who promote only the natural look, is being tarred with the same brush as the bizarre (mostly unregulated) group of cowboys who seem insistent on alienising people.

It’s frustrating that this is really what people believe – they really think that if they start having tweakments, they will end up on a ‘slippery slope’ and end up looking ‘done’ or alienised. No!! A good Practitioner will advise on tweakments that will enhance but not make you look in any way ‘done’ and they will say no if you ever ask for something that they believe will.

@alicehartdavis is a good example of this, she has had literally hundreds of tweakments and still looks totally natural, and not ‘done’ at all…. because she only has treatments with the best Practitioners!

So to all the wonderful women promoting ageing naturally, thank you and please continue to do so….. but to all those who would rather have a little help, please don’t be shamed by those who don’t…. but also please make sure you go to someone good!
