Botox has been used since the 1970s to treat many medical conditions, including paediatric conditions such as cerebral palsy, and has been used safely in far higher doses than are used in facial aesthetics.  It works by temporarily relaxing muscles.

The use of facial muscles repeatedly throughout a lifetime causes wrinkles and frown lines to develop.  In addition to this, the slowing down of collagen and elastin production caused by the ageing process means that these lines become permanent as we get older.  By reducing the movement of muscles in these areas, the skin stops being creased and is allowed to recover, causing the lines to soften or even fade away.

The response to treatment can vary from slight relaxation of the muscle to minimal movement, depending on each individual and the dose used.  At Morley Aesthetics we favour the 'less is more' approach so we always offer a free consultation two weeks following treatment so that more can be given if needed. This is because the effects of the treatment are not immediate, normally taking between 7 and 21 days to show its full effect.

The actual procedure is simple and safe.  Using a tiny micro-needle, a very small amount of Botox is injected very precisely into several locations on the face. The needle is so fine and only a small amount is used, therefore the pain associated with the injection is minimal. Most patients compare the sensation to a mosquito bite. No sedation or local anaesthetic is required. You can resume normal activities immediately afterwards and even drive yourself home or back to your place of work.

When administered by a well-trained experienced practitioner, side effects of Botox treatment are very rare and this is why at Morley Aesthetics we feel it is essential to have a fully trained doctor running the clinic.

Unfortunately, Botox injections are a temporary solution for the treatment of dynamic wrinkles. The effects of the injections last from three to six months so you will need to have injections about two to three times a year. The early clinical studies indicate that the duration of the benefits of the treatment is increased over time so that you should require fewer injections in the future. The duration of the effect varies from patient to patient and may be less effective for those over 65 years of age.
